DORCO Spreads Warmth and Hope with Winter Coal Sharing Campaign
On a frosty winter afternoon, the narrow alleys of Hwa Hwe Village, Songpa-gu, Seoul, buzzed with the warmth and sound of cheerful voices. The reason? DORCO employees gathered for a meaningful coal sharing campaign to support energy-vulnerable households.
In South Korea, coal, also known as "yeontan," holds a special cultural significance. For decades, they have been a primary source of heating for many households, particularly in underprivileged areas. While modern heating systems have largely replaced them in urban areas, they remain an essential staple for underserved communities. Coal donation campaigns have become a beloved tradition, symbolizing neighborly care and the collective effort to ensure no one is left in the cold during the harsh winter months.
On December 20, 2024, 2 p.m, DORCO employees took part in this tradition. With the help of “Coal Briquettes for Neighbors in Korea” charity foundation a total of 21 DORCO employees were able to help 6 families delivering a total of 1,200 pieces of coal. Spreading both heat and heartfelt care during the cold holiday seasons.
The task of carrying and stacking coal was physically demanding, yet the participants found the experience incredibly rewarding. Jeon Jaeuk from DORCO’s HR team shared, “I felt happy knowing we could deliver warmth to our neighbors during the cold winter. It may be a small gesture, but I hope the love we shared will bring great comfort to those in need.”
Meanwhile, Han Jiwon from the Production Technology team said, “Carrying the coals made me realize that the warmth I delivered could help someone get through the winter. Spending this meaningful time with my colleagues filled me with joy. This experience has inspired me to keep practicing the value of giving.”
Despite the cold weather, many participants felt a unique warmth while watching the stacks of coals grow. Lee JongHoon, from the Production team, reflected, “Today, I was reminded of the power in coming together as a community and how united, we can make a difference in fighting off the winter cold.”
The highlight of the day came when a local resident offered a simple “thank you.” Those few words of gratitude melted the participants' fatigue and left everyone feeling fulfilled, proving that small acts of kindness can have profound impacts.
